Jackson was born and raised in Arviat, NU to an Inuk mother and Southern father. He grew up with one foot in each world to become who he is today. He has always had a cultural connection to the land around him and was taught to be conscious of his environment. Combining this trait and his interest in anything mechanical, he was naturally drawn towards renewable energy. Not only for his personal benefit, but for the rest of his community and for the benefit of the environment which provides the backdrop of his most memorable and most enjoyable memories and activities. ᓴᓇᔪᓐᓇᑦᑎᐊᖅᖢᓂ, ᐃᒻᒥᓂᒃ ᑕᐃᕙᒃᖢᓂ ᑎᔪᐊᐃ DIY'er-ᖑᓂᕋᖅᖢᓂ, ᐊᒻᒪ ᐊᑐᖅᓯᔪᓐᓇᑦᑎᐊᖅᖢᓂ, ᐊᑐᒃᑲᓐᓂᕈᓐᓇᖅᖢᓂ ᐊᒻᒪ ᐊᖏᕐᕋᒥ ᓴᓇᔭᐅᓯᒪᔪᓂᒃ ᐋᖅᑭᒍᑎᒃᓴᓂᒃ ᓈᒻᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᖅᐸᐅᒃ. ᒫᓐᓇᓕᓴᕐᓂᒃ ᐱᓕᕆᔾᔪᑎᖃᓕᖅᑎᓪᓗᒋᑦ, ᑐᑭᓯᒋᐊᒐᒃᓴᑦ, ᐊᒻᒪ ᐱᓕᕆᔾᔪᑎᑦ ᓇᕿᑐᐃᓐᓇᕐᓗᒋᑦ ᐃᑭᐊᖅᑭᕕᒃᑯᑦ, ᔮᒃᓴᓐ ᐃᓱᒪᔪᖅ ᐅᑭᐅᖅᑕᖅᑐᒥᐅᑦ ᐃᓱᒪᑦᑎᐊᕐᓇᖅᑐᓂᒃ ᓴᖅᑭᑦᑎᔪᓐᓇᕐᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᐆᒻᒪᖅᑯᑎᓕᐅᕈᑎᒃᓴᓂᒃ ᐊᓯᒃᑲᓐᓂᖏᓐᓂᒡᓗ. Being somewhat mechanically inclined, a self-labelled DIY’er and being somewhat resourceful, repurposing, resourcefulness and home-grown solutions are concepts that come naturally to him. At Nukik, she is spearheading groundbreaking work, including the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link — a first-of-its-kind project delivering renewable electricity and broadband to Nunavut — while building cross-jurisdictional partnerships and securing federal, provincial, and Inuit support. Previously, Anne-Raphaëlle served as President and CEO of WaterPower Canada, representing Canada’s largest electricity sector. A recognized thought leader, she is frequently featured in national media and policy forums, and contributes to several boards and think tanks focused on sustainability, Indigenous partnerships, and energy transition. She was appointed by the Government of Canada to the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation – Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC), and elected Chair in 2025, where she promotes trilateral collaboration on climate and environmental protection between Mexico, Canada and the United States.
